Guitar Refinishing Process.

http://onlineguitarworld.blogspot.in/guitarrefinishingprocessMany of you people have a desire to change to the of of their guitars. Some of you want it to look more creative and some of you want it look more rocking or some others just want to change the color.

So,now I am going to show you how to do this.

List of tools used:-

1)Sanding Block
2)Sandpaper (60 grid, 80 grid, 100 grid, 320 grid)
3)Wood stain(if you wanna just stain your guitar) or paint
4)Sanding sealer
5)Lacquer

Lets see how to do this:-

Step 1 :-
First of all if you are going to refinish an electric guitar then remove its all parts i.e neck, pickup, pickguard and other parts.
If you are going to refinish an acoustic guitar then remove its saddle, bridge pins, tuning pegs, nut  and from my personal view its better now to think about removing its neck and bridge because its a very complicated process and you can damage your guitar while doing so.

Step 2 :-
Now all your hardware are removed.Place your guitar on a flat surface and take your sanding block wrap a piece of 60 grid sand paper around it and start sanding your guitar.Sand it properly in one direction and keep on increasing the grid of sanding paper in the last stage use the finest one.
Sand it until you are able to see the bare wood.

*This is my Yamaha f310 guitar fully sanded to bare wood.

Step 3 :-
Next step is to decide weather you want to stain it or paint it.If you are going to paint it then now apply the sanding sealer and let it dry.If you are going to stain it the just choose your favourite color and apply it on your guitar.

*I,ve decided to go for a dark brown stain

**Before applying stain or sanding sealer make sure that your guitar doesn't have any dust on it.

Step 4 :-
Now its time to apply the lacquer to protect it from dust and moisture. For applying lacquer you can use and good quality spray can lacquer or simply just go to any car repair shop and get the job done.Car paint shop person will do it correctly but you can use spray can lacquer also.

Actually in my case I don't like how it looks after I,ve applied the stain and then I decided to paint it so I do the whole process again and paint it with spray cans and customized it a little bit.

Note:-If you really wanna do then only try to refinish your guitar because refinished guitar loose their resale values but trust me once you refinished it you are not going to sell it and you get really attached with your instrument.

So, I hope that you people like it and hope to see you in my next posts. Till then

Keep Playing,Keep Enjoying.....
Have fun.
